"No stage for the Iranian regime at Frankfurt book fair"

The campaign „STOP THE BOMB –No Deals with the Iranian Regime!“ will protest against the participation of the Iranian regime at the Frankfurt Book Fair. On Wednesday, October 10, from 8.30 am to 4 pm a protest booth will be near the area “City-Eingang” to the fair at the “Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage”. At 1.00 pm the campaign will hold a protest rally under the slogan “No Stage for the Iranian Regime!”.

STOP THE BOMB spokesperson Jonathan Weckerle explains the protest: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is a deadly threat for the freedom of expression and art, as the death fatwas against Salman Rushdie and recently against the exile-Iranian German resident Shahin Najafi showed. The Iranian embassy and pro-regime publishers again want to use the Frankfurt Book Fair to spread anti-Semitism, Islamism and propaganda. As a sign of solidarity with the victims of the regime we call on the manager of the fair Juergen Boos, to disinvite the regime and to offer the free space at the fair to exile-Iranian writers!”

As this year’s speciality, Ali Esmaeli of the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance announced a „Holy Prophet“ stand to protest against the Muhammad video “Innocence of Muslims”. Even before the fair he incited against the “United States and the Zionist regime” and blamed them for the video.
