In conjunction with departure of American troops from Iraq, Nouri Al-Maliki, Iraqi Prime Minister, recently visited the White House. In order to better understand the fallacy of both the Bush and Obama administrations regarding the invasion of Iraq which ultimately has resulted in handing over Iraq to the Islamic Republic of Iran on a sliver platter, the issue needs a deeper examination and Al-Maliki's trip is of great significance.
Accompanying Nouri Al-Maliki was his Transportation Minister, Hadi Al-Ameri (Amiri). Mr. Amiri much like other high ranking Iraqi officials is a member of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq and the head of Badr Organization (former Badr Militia). The Badr Corps (Militia) was an arm of the IRGC in Iran during the Saddam era.
According to Wikipedia: "The Badr Organization (Arabic: منظمة بدر) previously known as the Badr Brigades or Badr Corps is an Iraqi political party headed by Hadi al-Amiri. Previously it was the armed wing of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq but since the 2003 invasion of Iraq most of its fighters have entered the new Iraqi army and police force and it officially became a completely political organisation. The organization was based in Iran for two decades during the rule of Saddam Hussein. It consisted of several thousand Iraqi exiles, refugees, and defectors who fought alongside Iran in the Iran–Iraq War. Returning to Iraq following the 2003 coalition invasion the group changed its name from brigade to organization in response to the attempted voluntary disarming of Iraqi militias by the Coalition Provisional Authority. It is however widely believed the organization is still active as a militia within the security forces and it has been accused of sectarian killings during the Iraqi Civil War.
Wikipedia continues: Hadi Al-Amiri is the current Iraqi minister of transportation and the head of the Badr Organization, which was the military wing of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC). Moreover, he is a member of the Iraqi parliament under the United Iraqi Alliance list, which mainly represents religious Shi'a parties.
As leader of the Badr Organization, Hadi Al-Amiri had a very close ties to the Iranian leadership, and in particular the Islamic Revolutionary Guards which was responsible for training the Badr Brigade during Saddam Hussein's rule. Hadi Al-Amiri was also one of the first Shi'a politicians to call for regional federation in the south of Iraq.
In other words, Mr. Amiri, a terrorist, who was a former member of the IRGC, which is listed as FTO (Foreign Terrorist Organization) now serves as the Transportation Minister and the Head of Badr Organization within the Iraqi government, visited the White House.
According to Wikileaks: "Amiri is widely known to have played a leading role in organizing attacks by the Badr Corps militia (the strongest most disciplined Shia militia at the time and precursor to the current Badr Organization) against Sunnis during the sectarian violence of 2004-2006. Sources indicate that he may have personally ordered attacks on up to 2,000 Sunnis...."
It is usually uncommon for a Transportation Minister to accompany such a high level visit to the White House. Reliable sources indicate that the Islamic Republic was attempting to send a message, perhaps to the Obama administration, as to precisely who is in charge in Iraq. This was recently reported in the Washington Times on December 12, 2011. An Iranian ‘terrorist’ in the White House?
and (2) FBI reports that Amiri was a prime suspect and played a major role in a 1996 terrorist attack (Saudi Arabia Khobar Towers Bombing) that killed 19 U.S. servicemen.
A number of Congressmen have voiced concern over the White House’s decision to host Al-Amiri. Florida Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Florida Republican and chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Tuesday in a letter to President Obama that she had “grave concern” about Iraq Transportation Minister al-Amiri being admitted into the White House.
Both the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq and the Badr Corps are part and parcel of the Islamic Republic's and its influence in Iraq. It is noteworthy that Ayatollah Hashemi Shahroodi was the first head of the Council who became the head of Judicial Branch in Iran. Esmaeel Daghayeghi was the first commander of the Badr Corps (Sepah Badr =Badr Army) who was killed in Iran-Iraq war. In others words Iran had a direct hand both in the founding and organization of the Council and formation of its opposition militia (Badr Corps).
President Obama handed over the governance of Iraq after the US departure to the Islamic Republic of Iran. In short, invasion of Iraq (not to mention the cost to the American tax payers, loss of American lives) and ousting of Saddam Hossein was the best favor the U.S. government could have done for the clerical regime in Iran.
Such wrong headed U.S. policy is precisely the reason that the Islamic Republic has been emboldened to poses a major threat to world security.
